Clothing

I am starting to see a trend.

I am like a cross between the disappearing American middle class and the members of the upper middle class.  Not in terms of income, silly, that’s private and would make me tacky.

In terms of taste.

My clothing taste is a mix of aspirational and existential.  I have evolved past utilitarian work wear to a uniform that suits my stature.  There are pieces I like that I really don’t need, and pieces I see that I really would never wear.

Still don’t get it?

The upper middle class doesn’t think of themselves as wealthy, despite being wealthier than 50% of the country, if not 70% (too lazy to look for article right now).  The Middle class still has to work hard for what they have, but they are not limited to acquiring only what they need.

I like nice things but I don’t EVER pay full price, and I really don’t understand how people can pay $200  for a tshirt.  Really?  $400 for a pair of shoes you will own for 20 years.  Totally.  Right now i’m more in the $150 for a pair of shoes I will own for 5-10 years, but you get the drift.  Somethings I just don’t understand.

I used to understand $120-180 for jeans.  Until my expensive jeans, all obtained for 50-80% off started poppin in the crotch.  IF i’m gonna pay the equivalent of 20 hours at minimum wage, whether or not I work minimum wage, the isht better frickin be worth it.  Now I cap jeans at $80, preferably 60, because they’re not meant/built to last, the trend passes, etc.  Not to be a fashionista, but Dark Denim 2 pairs, light denim 1 pair, grey denim, misc denim of your choice, and you’re good to go.

But I digress…
